Evaluation for coursework: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation for coursework: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During and after the making of this product I discovered that it is possible to add effects to the video without the need to tell the viewers, an example of this is at the beginning of the video we used an old fashioned/flickering edit, which lets our viewers know it was set in past times.

I also learned a different way of showing the relationship between two people without having to use words. We used a burst of stars in a firework sense to achieve this which I think benefitted our video extremely well.

we also used the internet and used the IMDB website to research different films and genres. we watched different DVDs and trailures to influence our work and have more of an understanding of the different genres and conventions.

i also learnt better use of camera work and how different shots can emphasize a character and show different statuses for example the use of a high angle shot can make a character look superior and more powerful and a low angle shot making a character look superior.

when editing we used video filtering to make one of our scenes black and white. we also used different transitions like cuts and fades to emphasize that time was passing by.

Evaluation for coursework: How did you attract/address your audience?

we used mise en scene and dialogue of typical teenagers in south London for e.g the clothing, the typical house, living in a block of flats, the typical language which is known as 'slang' etc. These aspects will attract our audience because they will also be able to relate to the characters and feel a sense of connection to their lifestyles.

the soundtrack we used can also attract our audience as it is a 'hip hop' beat used whilst introducing the characters of 'Rapunzelisha' and 'Dwayne'. the audience can be attracted because 'hip hop' is the typical type of music black and white teenagers might listen for entertainment. as the soundtrack is at the beginning of the film it may keep the audience interested.
our audience thougtht that our film looked very effective and use of transitions was done well. they also said that the liked the colours used and the way the shots continued after one another. It was very interesting for a short film.
Evaluation for coursework: Who would be the audience for your media product?
the audience for our media product is mainly black and white teenagers in south London. our film consists of typical black teenagers and typical families.
because the audience can be seen as similar to the characters in our film, therefore can relate more to the story and understand the message and the different vocabulary used in the dialogue for e.g 'slang'.
our film is also aimed towards teenagers in different areas of London to show mixed cultures, giving them a chance to get involved in the action and also influence others.

Evaluation for coursework: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
as our film has a niche audience british media institutions like BBC films. our film is mostly likely to be recognized by teenagers in london as they are more likely to relate to it as it contributes to similar lifestyles and the same real life situations.

the reason why they might like to distribute our film is because it represents teenage lifestyle in london. the same stereotypes are used in adulthood which contributes to a street lifestyle. we target the same groups of audience, black and white young adults. our film can be shown in cinemas all over London.

Evaluation for coursework: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my group we looked at different media products and looked at conventions of different genres. we decided to do a more morden time version of a fairytale and use a fantasy, street life style genre and combinded them together.

we looked at the opening of three films to get a rough idea of how the opeining is set and what goes on in the first 5 minutes for e.g the characters are introduced. an exampe of this is in shrek when there is a over voice telling the story of what is happening so the audience can undestand who the princess is and why she is locked in tower at the beggining. we also watched kidulthood to get more ideas of typical characters, typical soundtracks and have an idea of the language used in dialogue. we used similar ideas for e.g the idea of having teenage black boys from kidulthood and fantasy like music from shrek.

we wanted to make sure the conventions we used were very stereotypical so the audience would understand it and possibly relate it to similar films involving the same genres, also so the audience could identify the different sub-genres used. we also wanted the audience to have a sense of reality, as our film insists on street life and every day events.

we also watched the cinderella story and used the typical narrative of 'girl likes boy' and also used the idea of the book opening to begin the story, from shrek but instead the mum was reading the book to her daughter in bed, making it seem more fairy tale like.

to help emphasize the fact times had changed we used the convention of black and white, which made the beginning more effective. it contrasts the past from present and is a common effect used in fair tales to show a flashback, or a time difference.
